c. Turkey
d. Egypt
Answer: b. Pakistan
– After 40 days of ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, a two-week ceasefire has finally been agreed upon.
– Trump accepted discussions on Iran’s ten conditions and used Shahbaz Sharif to save face.
– U.S. President Donald Trump said the decision was taken after an appeal from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Army Chief.
– Before the ceasefire, Trump had issued a strong warning to Iran that if ships were not given safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, he would destroy its entire civilization. He also threatened strikes on key infrastructure.
How the ceasefire happened and what will follow:
– According to a New York Times report, the deal was made possible through Pakistan’s mediation and last-minute intervention by China.
– Pakistan had proposed the two-week ceasefire, which Iran accepted.
– Under the agreement, the U.S. and Israel will stop their attacks. Iran will also halt its attacks.
– During this period, safe passage of oil, gas, and other vessels through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured with the help of the Iranian military.
– This ceasefire will also apply to Lebanon and other regions. After this, formal talks between the U.S. and Iran will begin on April 10 in Islamabad.
Iran sent a 10-point plan to the U.S.:
– Trump said that Iran has sent a 10-point plan to the United States, and further discussions can be held on it.
– Iran’s Supreme National Security Council claimed that the U.S. has accepted its 10-point proposal.
– According to the council, the agreement has been made on Iran’s terms and is being described as a victory for the country.
Iran’s 10-point plan to the U.S.:
– Complete cessation of attacks
– Removal of all sanctions
– Return of frozen assets
– Permanent end to the war (not just a ceasefire)
– Withdrawal of U.S. forces from the Middle East
– Compensation for war damages
– Control over the Strait of Hormuz
– Safe passage with conditions (under Iranian military coordination)
– Proposal to charge about $2 million per ship, to be shared with Oman
– End to regional conflicts, including attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon
Strait of Hormuz to remain open for two weeks:
– Under the ceasefire agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will remain open for the next two weeks.
Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that safe passage of ships will be ensured with the help of the Iranian military.
– This means shipping through the Strait will take place under “controlled transit.”
– During the war, shipping in this route had nearly come to a halt, raising concerns in global markets. Its reopening is expected to normalize supply.
– According to Iran’s proposal, each ship passing through will be charged about $2 million, shared with Oman.
– U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier demanded that the Strait of Hormuz be fully opened, after which this ceasefire deal became possible.
– The decision to open the Strait has also impacted markets, with oil prices falling by 15–16%.
– However, experts say the arrangement is temporary and uncertainty still remains.
Celebrations in Iran after ceasefire:
– As soon as news of the two-week ceasefire between the U.S.-Israel and Iran emerged, celebrations began in Tehran. Large numbers of people took to the streets on Wednesday morning to express happiness.
– People waved Iranian flags and celebrated. Many carried posters and photographs. During the celebrations, people also carried images of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died on February 28, the first day of the war, in a U.S.-Israel attack.
– After 40 days of continuous tension and attacks, the ceasefire has brought relief and enthusiasm among people.
Pakistan invited U.S. and Iran for talks in Islamabad:
– Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that both countries have been invited for face-to-face talks in Islamabad on April 10.
– In a social media post, he stated that the U.S. and Iran, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. He said this ceasefire will apply to all regions including Lebanon.
– He added that the aim of the talks in Islamabad is to find a permanent resolution to all disputes. Pakistan hopes this initiative will help bring lasting peace and stability to the region.
Trump shared Iran Foreign Minister’s statement:
– Trump shared a statement by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on his social media platform Truth Social. The statement confirmed the two-week ceasefire agreement and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
– Araghchi thanked Pakistan and its leadership, stating that they played an important role in ending the war in the region. He said that if attacks on Iran stop, its armed forces will also halt defensive actions.
Iranian Supreme Leader ordered halt to attacks:
– After the ceasefire agreement, Iran ordered a halt to attacks. About two hours after Trump’s ceasefire announcement, Iran’s Supreme Leader ordered all military units to stop firing.
– A statement read on Iran’s state news channel IRIB said all military branches must follow the Supreme Leader’s instructions and immediately cease fire.
– However, the statement also said that this is not the end of the war, but a temporary step. Despite this, all military units have been instructed to strictly follow the order.
