1. After the announcement of the President of which country, there was a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after 12 days of war?

a. China
b. Russia
c. USA
d. France

Answer: c. USA

– After a barrage of missiles and bomb blasts from June 13 to June 24, 2025 (12 days), Iran and Israel finally agreed that they would no longer fight.
– On the morning of June 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, but shortly afterward, Israel claimed that Iran had attacked it.
– However, Iran categorically denied this. Still, by the afternoon, both countries agreed to the ceasefire.

Trump Announces Ceasefire Between Iran and Israel
– U.S. President Donald Trump claimed a ceasefire between Iran and Israel at 3:30 AM on Tuesday.
– Following this, Iranian television reported that a ceasefire had begun in the war with Israel.
– Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that if Israel stops its attacks, Iran will also not carry out any attacks.
– Despite this, Iran launched six ballistic missile attacks on Israel.
– After that, Trump again said, “The ceasefire is in effect from now—please do not break it.”
– Then Israel also stated that it accepts the ceasefire.

Iran Fired Missiles at U.S. Bases in Qatar and Iraq
– Just a few hours before Trump’s announcement, Iran fired 19 missiles at the U.S. Al-Udeid Air Military Base in Qatar. However, there were no casualties in the attack because Iran had issued an alert prior to the strike.

Why Did Iran and Israel Agree to a Ceasefire?
– Donald Trump took full credit for the ceasefire. He believes that the war ended solely because of his intervention. However, there were several other reasons behind the ceasefire:
– Left Alone on the Battlefield: Both Iran and Israel found themselves isolated in the conflict. Iran received verbal support from countries like Russia, China, and North Korea, but no military assistance. Groups like the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Hamas had become too weakened to stand with Iran. On the other hand, while the U.S. backed Israel politically, it didn’t provide the kind of military support it had given during the Gaza conflict. However, on June 22, the U.S. did carry out B-2 bomber strikes on Iran’s nuclear laboratories.
– Devastation on Both Sides: From June 13 to June 24, over 600 people were killed in Iran due to the war, and more than 5,000 were injured.
– In Israel, around 28 people died and over 3,000 were injured.
– Iran attacked several Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Beersheba, and Haifa. Its strikes destroyed the Mossad headquarters, residential buildings, hospitals, and government offices.
– In retaliation, Israel struck Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, and targeted several Iranian cities, killing many military officials.
– U.S. President Trump spoke over the phone with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, urging him to persuade Iran to accept a ceasefire.
– After that, J.D. Vance coordinated Qatar and Iran’s discussions from the White House.
– Qatar succeeded in convincing Iran to agree to the ceasefire.
– Then, on the morning of June 24, Trump formally announced the ceasefire.

Does the ceasefire mean that both countries will not attack now?
– Foreign affairs expert and retired JNU professor A.K. Pasha says, ‘After Trump’s announcement, a ceasefire happened, but it cannot be said how long it will last.
– Israel and Iran do not seem happy with America’s ceasefire announcement and both said that if there is an attack, there will definitely be retaliation. However, there is a difference between a ceasefire being implemented and being maintained.’

What will happen to Iran’s nuclear program after the ceasefire?
– Mohammad Islami, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, has said that the damage caused to Iran’s nuclear program by the Israeli and American attacks is being repaired.
– According to Rosemary Kalanick, director of the Middle East program at the American think tank ‘Defense Priorities’, ‘The American attack has further increased the possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. If Iran’s nuclear facilities are destroyed in these attacks, it will try to increase them with speed and more force.’

Answer: b. 3

– According to the IEA, India ranked third among countries with the fastest growth in electricity generation capacity over the past five years.

– To meet this growing demand, the country has rapidly expanded electricity production from all energy sources.
– The report highlights that a major reason for this growth is the emphasis on renewable energy.

Share of Clean Energy Projects

8. Which institutions created India’s first national ‘Rare Blood Donor Registry’, which was decided to be linked to the e-raktkosh platform. This will give life to patients suffering from many diseases including thalassemia?

a. ICMR
b. NIIH
c. Both a and b
d. AIIMS

Answer: c. Both a and b (ICMR and NIIH)

ICMR : Indian Council of Medical Research
NIIH : National Institute of Immunohematology, Mumbai

‘Rare Blood Donor Registry’
– It is an online portal that contains complete information about donors with rare blood groups.
– This will help needy patients to get blood easily.
– Now, it is being linked with the Government of India’s e-RaktKosh platform, which will connect data from all blood banks together.
– For the first time in India, a national-level Rare Blood Donor Registry has been created for patients with rare blood groups.
– This initiative has been undertaken by the National Institute of Immunohaematology (NIIH), Mumbai, under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
– Its main objective is to provide timely blood supply to patients who need frequent transfusions.
– Especially for patients suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

Patients with Thalassemia Need Blood the Most
– Dr. Manisha Madkekar from ICMR says that about 100,000 to 150,000 thalassemia patients require frequent blood transfusions.
– Meanwhile, more than 1,200 road accidents occur daily in India.
– Every year, there are 60 million surgeries, 240 million major operations, 330 million cancer treatments, and 10 million pregnancy-related complications, all of which require a large supply of blood. This is why the registry was created.

Now Over 360 Blood Antigens Will Be Identified
– Until now, most blood banks in India match only ABO and RhD blood groups.
– However, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) has identified over 360 blood antigens across 47 different systems.
– When these minor antigens are not matched, patients can develop a reaction called alloimmunization, which complicates treatment.
– Some rare blood groups occur in only 1 in 1,000 or even fewer donors.
– It often becomes impossible for local blood banks to provide blood for such patients.
– Therefore, blood has to be searched at national or international levels.

ICMR now wants to link this registry with e-RaktKosh.
– This will allow all blood banks in India to add information about their rare blood donors to the database.
– Patients and doctors will be able to quickly get information and contacts for rare blood whenever needed via the portal.
