– This cruise will embark on a five-day tour to three ports in Sri Lanka, Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Kankesanturai, carrying 750 passengers, and then return to Chennai.
– Along with this, the Minister also inaugurated an international cruise tourism terminal at Chennai Port, built at a cost of 17.21 crore rupees.
– Sarbananda Sonowal stated that this is being seen as the beginning of a new era of cruise tourism and maritime trade in the country.

Targets for increasing the number of cruises:

Plans for new cruise tourism terminals in Andaman, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep:
– Plans are underway to develop new cruise tourism terminals in the Andaman, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep circuit.
– Work is being done to develop ferry circuits in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Myanmar.
– In order to boost the demand for cruise services along the western, southern, and eastern coasts of the country, work is also underway in Gujarat for pilgrimage, cultural and natural tourism, Ayurvedic wellness tourism, and heritage tourism.

– The operation of the world’s longest river cruise, Ganga Vilas, began in January 2023.

– Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the state’s internet broadband service, KFON (Kerala Fiber Optic Network), on 6th June 2023.
– Prior to this, in July 2022, it had received certification from the Department of Telecommunications as an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

KFON:
– In 2019, the Kerala government declared internet connection as a basic right.
– Along with this, the government initiated the Kerala Fiber Optic Network Limited (KFON) project worth 1,548 crore rupees.
– Now, in June 2023, this service has been launched for the general public.
– It is estimated that around 7.5 million families can avail themselves of internet services.
– Out of these, approximately 2 million economically disadvantaged families will receive free internet.
– Additionally, government departments will also receive free internet services.
– In the first phase, 14,000 economically disadvantaged families and 30,000 government offices will receive KFON internet services.
– Users can benefit from internet services at a speed of 20 Mbps, and the speed can be increased as per the requirement.
– In Kerala, anyone can become a KFON customer through the KFON mobile application, which is available on Playstore and App Store.
– For prepaid customers, data plans start at 299 rupees per month for 3,000 GB of data.

What is the meaning of self-owned internet?

– Generally, the Telecom Department of the central government grants certification to private companies as Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
– Companies are required to pay a fee for this certification.
– The Kerala government has obtained its own license for its KFON project and has paid the necessary fee.

– India is set to become the world’s largest food storage (food store) in the cooperative sector.

– Initially, the pilot project will be implemented in 10 districts. After that, the plan will be implemented throughout the country.

Where will these food stores be located?
– Under the Food Storage Scheme, warehouses will be built in every block.
– Its capacity will be 2,000 tons.
Warehouses of 500-2000 tons will also be built in Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS).
– The wastage of grains due to storage shortage will be prevented.

– Under the chairmanship of the Cooperative Minister, an inter-ministerial committee will be formed.

– Once the Food Storage Scheme is fully implemented, the storage capacity will reach 2,150 lakh tons in 5 years.

– The storage capacity is 1,450 lakh tons.
– The country has only 47 percent of storage capacity for production.
– After the implementation of this scheme, the storage capacity will be 2,150 lakh tons.

– There are more than 13 crore farmers associated with over 1,00,000 PACS.

– In the financial year 2023-24, 63,000 PACS will be computerized in the next five years.
