IBPS Clerk Final Preparation Tips
In the discussion below we have tried to include various mistakes committed by unsuccessful IBPS PO candidates. We expect you to learn from them and qualify Clerk Mains Exam. Moreover IBPS Clerk Preparation Tips have been given in an integrated manner.
1) MANAGE TIME
Most of the unsuccessful candidates failed to perform well because they could not attempt enough questions so as to achieve cutoff marks. If you do the same, you may have to walk out with guilt of not managing your time well. So when you read the exam questions, quickly analyse if it is feasible to solve it or it will just waste your time. Few points to ponder are: –
- There is sectional time limit for each section. So all the attempts within a section must be completed with the stipulated time frame.
- Do not spend too much time on one question. Instead solve two questions that take less time since all question carry equal marks.
Tips for time management
- Do not take more than 1 minute per question for reasoning, English and quantitative aptitude.
- Make sure to attempt maximum questions within each section. Implement “easy first” strategy.
- Don’t answer questions which you aren’t sure about. Accuracy is vital for scoring above cutoff.
Since there would not be a choice to attempt any section at random, be ready to answer the questions whichever section comes first.
2) NEGATIVE MARKING
You all have cleared the prelims exam. So you must be aware of the fact that 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. Therefore you need to keep a check on the quality of your attempts. Making wild guesses will not only waste your time but also award you negative marking and lower your confidence.
However you can make intelligent guesses in case your time management is excellent and you have finished your paper. For making such intelligent guesses for leftover questions just keep in mind that 4 wrong answers will nullify your one correct answer.
3) Study Qualitative Content (Books & Study Material)
Many candidates buy books and study material from unknown authors with abundant errors. It affects their exam performance. Always keep in mind that the books and study material should be reliable and authenticated. Buy books that stick to the concerned exam syllabus and give you real exam practice. 4) HARD WORK and SMART WORK
There is an old saying “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”. The same way if you don’t work hard and practice well before the exam, you may be overtaken by the candidates who worked practiced harder than you. So just going through the exam pattern is not enough and thorough practice must be done. Take mock tests at regular intervals from qualitative sources. Also derive new short tricks to save time during exam. Only smart work and hard work combined can ensure your success.
5) SECTIONAL CUTOFF
Since you have also seen the same pattern in the prelims exam, it is expected that you are aware of the sectional cutoffs. According to this criteria only those candidates are declared as qualified in the exam who score above the cutoff cores of each of the five sections and in the exam overall. The Cutoff marks are decided by the IBPS after the exam. Salient points about sectional cutoff are: –
- Qualify each section and the exam overall.
- Separate cutoffs are declared for each section.
- Different cutoffs will be declared for all states and categories (Gen/ SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD etc)
Candidates can read the info regarding previous year cutoffs to prepare better.
Learn from your previous mistakes and that of others too. Good Luck!
