– It caused devastation in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia on the night of 26 November 2025.
– Floods and landslides killed more than 775 people. Indonesia suffered the most damage.
– Several islands of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands received heavy rainfall.

Cyclonic Storm ‘Ditwah’

– The ‘Ditwah’ storm developed in the Indian Ocean near the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka on 26 November 2025.
– It caused devastation across large areas of Sri Lanka on 28 November.
– Heavy rains caused floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, resulting in more than 300 deaths.
– The next day, the storm entered the Bay of Bengal.
– It brought heavy rains to large parts of Tamil Nadu, causing damage to farmers and fishermen.

– A rare storm that formed overnight and reached Indonesia’s Sumatra island on the morning of 26 November 2025. It is the first-ever November cyclone recorded in Indonesia.
– Seniyar developed over the Malacca Strait on 24–25 November 2025.
– It became a severe cyclonic storm on 25 November.
– Around midnight of 26 November, it triggered landslides in northern Sumatra.
– Then it moved toward Malaysia and entered the South China Sea on 28 November.
– Seniyar caused heavy floods and landslides in central and southern Thailand (especially Songkhla province), peninsular Malaysia, and Sumatra.

More than 775 deaths due to Seniyar
– Over 770 deaths were recorded across the three countries.
– Indonesia: At least 505 deaths, more than 2,500 injured, and 430 missing (North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Aceh).
– Thailand: 267 deaths and 102 injured (including 200 deaths in Songkhla alone).
– Malaysia: 3 deaths.

How cyclones form
– When a low-pressure area forms over the sea, a cyclone begins.
– Global warming increases sea temperatures, causing warm air to rise and creating a vacuum-like low-pressure zone.
– Air rushes in, rises, cools at higher altitudes, and falls again, creating a spinning storm with high wind speeds.
– Cyclones help oceans release heat and cool themselves.
