Why Did Rishi Sunak Lose the Election?
– Long Time in Power: The Conservative Party had been in power for a long time (14 years). Four Prime Ministers were changed quickly. Liz Truss was the shortest-serving PM in British history.
Recession Situation: Since the corona pandemic, Britain has been on the brink of recession. Rishi Sunak tried to fix it, succeeded to some extent, but the situation was already bad.
– Unemployment and Living Standards: The living standards of people are the worst in 60 years. Unemployment is increasing.
Relations with the EU After Brexit: The UK decided to separate from the European Union in 2016. Britain has failed to establish a working relationship with the Union so far. There are many countries in Europe, but with the greatness that we are European, this psychological connection could not be made.
– Becoming PM by Opportunity: It went negative that initially he supported Boris Johnson, then separated. After that, Liz Truss became PM, and later he himself became PM.
– Selected PM: It is rare in Britain that the party selects the PM. Rishi Sunak was a selected PM, not an elected PM. He was not chosen by the party workers through a vote.
– Approach to Migration: Under Sunak’s government, there was talk of sending illegal immigrants to Rwanda and Uganda by ship. This idea was given by former Home Minister Suella Braverman. It increased resentment among immigrants.
– International Challenges: The problem is not only in Britain but in many European countries that for decades they had control over countries around the world. Even after giving independence, they continued to enjoy the resources. During the Cold War, too. There were wars in Europe and West Asian countries, like Yugoslavia (which later became Serbia and Montenegro). These wars benefited European countries. Cheap labor was available from there. But it was stopped in 2007-08 when the economic crisis came. After that, revolutions and wars started happening in West Asia. Concerns about China started to arise. This all continued until the corona era arrived. During the corona era, the US, China, Europe all were devastated. The pandemic made countries and societies helpless, which was seen in Britain and European countries. They tried to move forward, and then the Russia-Ukraine war happened. Then the Israel-Hamas issue arose, increasing difficulties. The economic crisis worsened.

Good or Bad for India
– It is not bad for India. Despite being of Indian origin, Rishi Sunak was strict on the immigration issue. He could not do anything for people of Indian origin.
– Could not make a Free Trade Agreement with India: For many years, talks on the FTA have been ongoing but no progress has been made.
