– According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 12:11 AM on the night of July 28–29, 2025.
– The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers (approximately 6.2 miles). There are no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
– Despite the earthquake having a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale, there is no threat of a tsunami.

Note – On December 26, 2004, the Indian Ocean experienced the deadliest tsunami in recorded history. Triggered by a massive earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, the tsunami generated towering waves that devastated coastal areas in 14 countries.

Why do earthquakes occur?
– Beneath the Earth’s surface are several tectonic plates, which rest on molten lava. These plates are constantly in motion.
– The places where these plates collide the most are called fault lines.
– When plates collide repeatedly, their edges begin to bend.
– As pressure builds up on the plates, they begin to crack.
– After that, the energy trapped beneath starts looking for a way to escape, and when the disturbance becomes significant, an earthquake occurs.
– Around 500,000 earthquakes occur on Earth every year.
– Only about 20,000 to 100,000 are felt, and among them, approximately 100 cause significant damage.
– The most devastating earthquake occurred in Chile in 1960. It had a magnitude of 9.6 and killed around 6,000 people.
– On December 26, 2004, an earthquake in Indonesia triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean, resulting in the deaths of approximately 230,000 people.

How much impact depends on the intensity of the earthquake
Richter scale – impact
