– The “National Ceremony” on the occasion of Constitution Day was organized in the Central Hall of the Constitution House of the Old Parliament Building.

Why is Constitution Day celebrated?
– On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution.
– However, the Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950 (which we celebrate as Republic Day).
– Since 2015, the Government of India has declared it as the official “Constitution Day”.
– It is celebrated to honour the contribution of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
– The values of the Constitution – Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity – are remembered.

Important facts
– Studies show that methane gas emissions have increased worldwide.
– “Under current regulations, anthropogenic methane emissions are projected to rise 5% above 2020 levels by 2030 and 21% by 2050.”
– In non-G20+ regions, emissions may reach 16% above 2020 levels by 2030 and 53% by 2050.
– According to UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen, reducing methane emissions is one of the effective steps that can be taken to slow the climate crisis while protecting human health.
India’s position in the Global Methane Report:
– India emitted about 31 metric tonnes of methane in 2020.
– India’s agricultural methane emissions contribute 12% to global agricultural methane, which is among the highest globally.
– India’s rice methane emissions are estimated to increase by 8% between 2020–2030.
– India does not identify measures to reduce emissions from its largest methane source (agriculture) in its NDC.
– India has been highlighted as a major hotspot of crop residue burning.
