– After that, Manu gave up boxing and tried her hand at martial arts, but she felt there was cheating in that game.
– Manu’s mother, Dr. Sumedha Bhaker, was a school principal.
– The Universal School where her mother was the principal also had a shooting range. Her mother sent her to the shooting range with her father. Manu made her first shot, and physical education teacher Anil Jakhad recognized her talent.
– After that, Dr. Sumedha moved from Jhajjar to Faridabad to support Manu’s practice.
– At the previous Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Manu’s pistol malfunctioned during the qualifying round. For 20 minutes, she couldn’t take aim. Even after the pistol was repaired, Manu could only take 14 shots and was out of the finals. She was disheartened at that time but maintained her spirit and has now become India’s first female shooter to win an Olympic medal.
